Between Tre Cime and Cadini di Misurina: A Helicopter Elopement in the Dolomites
They wanted their commitment made in an intimate setting. Not entertaining guests. Not managing expectations. Just the two of them in a place that felt right.
The Dolomites offered that space. A helicopter would take them to places few ever stand.
The Day Before
They spent the morning apart
yet in the same room
moving carefully not to see each other.
The day before their elopement, they accidentally hiked a good portion of the Alta Via 1. Not planned. Just exploration that turned into hours of steady climbing through the Dolomites. Trails winding through valleys, switchbacking up ridges, opening onto views they hadn’t expected to find.
By the time they returned, legs tired and spirits high, they knew the landscape differently. The peaks they’d see from the helicopter the next day, they’d already walked beneath. That grounding mattered. The mountains weren’t just backdrop. They’d already moved through them on foot.
Morning in the Same Room
They spent the morning getting ready in the same hotel room, moving carefully to avoid seeing each other. Hair and makeup happening on one side. Him adjusting his suit on the other. The air bright with anticipation, the space holding both separation and togetherness.
The hotel had been chosen for practical reasons. Drumlerhof is family-run, known for accommodating specific dietary needs without compromise. They needed gluten-free and lactose-free options that didn’t feel like substitutions. The kitchen delivered that and more. The hotel also coordinated the helicopter logistics, which meant one less moving piece to manage during planning.
Preparation unfolded without urgency. Conversations weaving between excitement and focus. A borrowed dress that fit without a single alteration. Everything coming together in a way that felt both simple and full of meaning.
First Look on the Rooftop
He adjusted the rooftop terrace setup again and again while she finished getting ready. Flowers repositioned. Light considered. The kind of nervous energy that comes from wanting everything right.
When she stepped out, the mountains stretched wide behind them both. Laughter came first. Then tears. The immediate shift from waiting to beginning. From separate to together. The first look dissolving the careful distance they’d held all morning. Now they were ready.
Picnic by the Lake
We drove to a lake that doesn’t appear on most Dolomites itineraries. Quiet. Tucked away. The picnic had been prepared by the hotel kitchen with the same care they are known for. Gluten-free. Lactose-free. Generous enough that there was plenty to share – even with me. Bread and spreads. Fresh fruit. Chocolate mousse. Everything plated thoughtfully, nothing feeling like an accommodation. It all just worked.
They sat by the water and ate savoring every bite. The lake holding reflections of the peaks rising around them. A moment of stillness before the day lifted them into something more dramatic.
Lifted above the Peaks
The helicopter rose from the valley, sound filling everything, then easing as altitude smoothed the flight. Below, the trails they’d walked the day before became thin lines across green slopes. The valleys opened. The scale shifted. Higher still, the iconic spires of Tre Cime came into view. Three massive towers of pale limestone rising against the sky. Then Cadini di Misurina appeared, a cluster of jagged peaks catching afternoon light in ways that made the rock look almost translucent. The flight path curved between them. Not just viewing from a distance, but moving through the landscape at eye level with peaks that usually require hours of hiking to approach. The helicopter brought them into terrain few ever stand within.
The landing spot sat on a high alpine plateau between the formations. Rock underfoot. Sky overhead. The kind of place that quiets you without effort. When the rotors stopped and the sound faded, the silence felt enormous.
Vows Among the Peaks
There, with Tre Cime on one side and the sharp edges of Cadini on the other, they spoke their vows. Voices breaking. Eyes full. Words they’d written separately now spoken aloud for the first time. The weight of the moment held not just by them, but by the landscape itself. The mountains didn’t perform. They simply stood witness. Wind moved across the plateau. Light shifted as clouds passed overhead. The conditions changed visibly around them, yet the vows stayed steady. Clear. Intentional.
This was what they’d chosen. Intimacy over spectacle. Presence over performance. A commitment made in a place that mattered to them both, witnessed by stone that had stood for millennia.
Champagne and a Barefoot Dance
Then came the champagne. The cork released. The bottle sprayed. Joy so uncontained it soaked everything. Me included. More than any couple had managed before. Laughter spilling over into the thin mountain air, echoing off limestone walls.
She kicked off her shoes and they danced. Barefoot on rock. High above the valleys. The wind carrying their movement, their laughter, the sheer relief of having spoken what needed to be said and now simply celebrating it. Nothing choreographed. Nothing held back. Just two people dancing on a mountain because that’s what the moment called for.
Under the Stars
By the time full darkness settled, the stars emerged in numbers they hadn’t expected. More than seemed possible at this elevation. The Dolomites holding the darkness in a way that let the light through. Constellations sharpening. The Milky Way visible as a band rather than a suggestion.
They stood together at the very end of the valley, where the stars shine brightest, the day behind them now, and looked up. Then back at each other. The stars were stunning. The peaks still visible as dark shapes against the sky. But they looked first to each other. Their joy brighter than anything overhead.

In their Words
“Eline and her local expertise was hands down the best decision my husband and I made for our elopement. We interviewed 3 possibilities, North Wind Elopements, being the last and we knew instantly she was the right choice.
At each phase of the process, from initial interview to photo shoot, Eline’s experience was felt. She was always prepared and communicated clearly. She would send us each questionnaires to figure out what it is we wanted and how she could best fulfill that vision. The niche dietary friendly family-run hotel she recommended was incredibly accommodating and delicious. Each subcontractor – hair and make up, flowers, private helicopter – she recommended did a phenomenal job. She even recommended gorgeous hikes for us along the rest of our trip!
On our wedding day, Eline was fully prepared and a welcome positive energy. She had a number of props ready to go when we needed, for things to run smoothly. The way she took the time between shooting to get to know us better as a couple was endearing and we felt like she genuinely cared. All you have to do to see that is follow her instagram and see the response to all her work.
If you’re planning on eloping in a location North Wind operates, do yourself the favor and book it with Eline. 🙂 <3″ — Liz
